MECCA BINGO AGAINST NEW BINGO TAX

Monday, June 1st, 2009 | Bingo News

Mecca Bingo have issued a statement saying that both their land-based customers and employees are against the government’s increase in bingo tax from 15 percent to 22 percent.

Land-based bingo halls are already struggling due to the smoking ban and the recession. The new tax announced in the Chancellor’s spring budget will put even more pressure on bingo halls to survive say Mecca Bingo.

The Rank Group who own Mecca Bingo, have had their CEO Ian Burke appear on television in The Politics Show speaking out against the tax increase.

Mecca Bingo’s customers and employees have also joined forces to campaign against the tax hike. They have written to the press and local MPs, set up petition groups on the social networking site Facebook and are sending a petition straight to Downing Street. So far, more than 25,000 bingo players have signed the petition, showing the depth of feeling against the tax rise.
